Lazio

Cantine Casale della Ioria

Olivella I.G.T.
Rosso Del Frusinate
The 2010 is quite exemplary, with its richness of fruit, complexity, structure and softness. Made from monovarietal Cesanese and Merlot, it has a rich nose, full of pervasive hints of warm red fruit. There is plentiful but not excessive alcohol, balanced by good depth and richness of flavour, and it finishes long.
Vintage ’10

Tres
Rosso Del Frusinate I.G.T.
Casale della Ioria is a small, family run estate in Ciociaria (Lazio) where owner Paolo Perinelli oversees every aspect of the process. From vineyard management and the sorting of fruit, to the vinification and packaging of his wines. Tres is a blend of Cesanese (an indigenous, aromatic grape), Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Where the Cesanese gives the wine its characteristic peppery notes and bright acidity, the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon impart rich fruit flavours, tannin and warm mouth feel. The grapes are crushed and macerated separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel for up to ten days. The wine is aged for up to 12 months in French tonneaux and barriques.
Vintage ’11

Tenuta della Ioria
Cesanese del Piglio Superiore D.O.C.G
It is an intense ruby red wine, with gorgeous legs and great consistency. It is suggestive of cherries under alcohol, blackberry jam, fennel, tobacco, earth tones, mushrooms, and sweet red peppers, after a few minutes dried red roses start rolling over everything. It had balsamic tones and a very complex and intense nose, but still developing.

Torre del Piano Superiore Reserva

Grapes are crushed and macerated in temperature controlled stainless steel for up to ten days. Wine is aged for up to 12 months in new French barriques.

Zero S DOCG
Cesanese Del Piglio
This is the first winery in Lazio we have come across that is making an amazing Cesanese del Piglio Solfite free.It is no coincidence that this is the cellar’s most ambitious wine, with spicy nuances of quince and rhubarb, a fully rounded mouth and a concentrated aromatic profile full of Mediterranean warmth.
Vintage ’16

Campo Novo DOCG
Cesanese del Piglio
A delightful Cesenese with concentrated aromatic profile full of Mediterranean warmth, crisp floral notes and even fresher vegetal tones balancing the fruit and a compact, assertive palate drives through to an intriguing finish.

With a delightful blend of Merlot and Sangiovese Incontro is really excellent, with it’s deep bouquet of dark berries, spice and chocolate, and a pallet nicely underpinned by oak that features densely textured, smooth tannins and a racy, lingering finish.
Vintage ’13

Sogno I.G.T.
With an intriguing blend of Merlot and Cesanese it has notable complexity on the nose with fresh plum, roasted coffee beans and liquorice. The aromas are fresh, fruity and distinctly redolent of morello cherry and blackberry jam. The palate has good extract, nice balance throughout and an even finish.

Veneto

Cantina San Rustico

Valpolicella Classico Superiore D.O.C.
The Campanola family are typical of a new generation that is establishing small, quality-focused estates in the region. They have rejuvenated ancient terraced vineyards and apply this same respect for tradition in the winery. The results are wonderful; this is a mid-weight wine of perfume, red fruit and savory nuances.
Vintage ’15

Ripasso Classico Superiore D.O.C.
An intense ruby colour; extremely refined on the nose displaying ripe fruit, cassis, plum and a hint of herbs. An enticing and juicy palate, medium to full bodied is smoothly textured, with ripe, long, racy tannins before a ripe but savory finish.
Vintage ’13

Porta Rosso Veronese I.G.T.
An absolutely delicious wine and a great value at this price. The wine is aged in a combination of small and large oak casks for 18 months followed by 6 months in the bottle prior to release for sale. It is a full-bodied wine with full-on flavors of dried fruit such as raisins, plums and dark cherries accented with sweet kitchen spice notes. A velvety texture, gentle tannins and a long finish.
Vintage ’14

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico D.O.C.
Verona’s most famous red wine, Amarone, is created through drying grapes on wooden racks for several months before fermentation. This process, when managed carefully, produces wine of intense aromas, flavours and structure with hints of soft red fruits, overlaid with smoky oak finish. The estate of San Rustico has become one of the exponents of this style of wine.
Vintage ’11

Amarone Gaso D.O.C.
The estate’s flagship wine is the 2006 Amarone della Valpoliccela Classico Gaso. Basaltic lava soils have helped to shape a focused and sharp expression of Amarone that presents its aromas of dried fruit and spice with utmost precision. The wine sees 36 months in bottle grande and these large casks crate the conditions for enhanced fruit nuances (as opposed to heavy oak toast). The 2006 vintage is characterized by higher dry extract and power (the alcohol reads 16%) and you get both in this wine. Its success ultimately comes from the balance and overaal harmony it demonstrates on the finish.

Vintage ’11

Cantina Feudi di San Gregorino

Patrimo Irpinia Rosso I.G.T.
The ’04 Patrimo is a most challenging wine. It offers a very ripe, fresh nose of jam and brandied fruit, but the clenched, vigorous palate sweeps away any doubts about its soundness and ageing potential. The nose is inscrutable, but the weight and power displayed on the palate doesn’t require much interpretation

The Brezza Barolos are almost arrogantly successful. Its concentrated colour has by now achieved legendary status, while the intriguing bouquet offers contrasting, wonderful deep aromas. Barolo Grand Cru List

Cantina Brezza Giacomo & Figli

Barolo Cannubi D.O.C.G.
Medium burnished ruby.   The 1989 is a sensational effort that perfectly captures Cannubi and the superb 1989 vintage.  It shows a very layered profile in its balsamic nose of spices, menthol and flowers, with great density and concentration in its rich black cherry fruit that explodes onto the palate with great persistence and freshness.  The 1989 is at the same time more delicate and structured than the 1990.
Vintage ’89

Barolo Sarmassa D.O.C.G.
Still beautiful, and holding well. This bottle came from the cantina’s library cellar, which is kept at 10-11C (50-52F). Huge nose of tar, black cherries, licorice, violets and rose petals, all very fresh. The flavor profile is more mature: dried dark fruits, cranberries, dried flowers, truffle, loam, licorice, saddle leather, and mountain herbs. The persistence and balance are precise, focused and long. The finish shows excellent ripe and integrated tannins, with fresh acidity and subtle notes of wood.
Vintage ’90
